Eurovision World Cup: Italy vs Ireland

For the duration of the actual World Cup, some of the best Eurovision artists old and new will be battling it out in a series of matches that mirror the World Cup itself. By the end, we will know the first winner of our Eurovision World Cup!

On each competition day of the World Cup, all of the matches for that day will be posted here on Eurovision Union. For a full 24 hours, a poll will be open for each match and it will be up to you to pick which of the representative songs will win the match.

We have reached Day 12 of the Eurovision World Cup, and although we are still in the Group stage, we have reached the final ‘round’ of the Group stage with the remaining matches acting as the deciding matches for many of the nations competing! Today we are starting off with the matches from Group A and Group B – a total of four matches! Here’s the match between Italy and Ireland!

Today’s competitors:

Italy has won Eurovision twice, the first time with Gigliola Cinquetti and the song Non ho l’età and the second winning entry, which is the competing entry for Italy in the Eurovision World Cup is Insieme: 1992 which was performed by Toto Cutugno. The song won Eurovision in 1990, so if you need to refresh your memory on the performance, check it out below:

Ireland still holds the record for the most amount of wins at Eurovision with a total of 7, so it was a challenge to pick just one of their winners to compete in the Eurovision World Cup. In the end, we decided on Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan who performed the song Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids back in 1994. This was the third Irish win in a row, as the nation had won in 1992 and 1993.
